INDORE GARDEN
Autumn 2013

A thrilling collection of fabrics by Richard Smith as inspired by the memory of his trip to Udaipur in Rajastan, India.

GRAND PAISLEY INDORE GARDEN
2136/01 to 04
100%Linen
4 colorways
Width: 137cm/54”

An over scaled trail of heady blooms climb against the background of a geometric “Jali” screen. The feel of the low, evening light on the flowers is accentuated by the beguiling color palette. Red, pink and orange against sand stone, and every shade of neutral against rich saffron are just two of the four colorways.

WEDDING PARADE
2134/01 to 03
100%Linen
3 colorways
Width: 137cm/54”

Whilst Richard Smith was researching this new collection he found one of his old sketchbooks with drawings from Udaipur and a copy of an 1850’s painting depicting a marriage celebration. He has tried to capture the color, movement, drama and sounds of such an occasion in this new design. The characters and animals run horizontally across the fabric so the parade is endless!

IKAT VASE
2135/01 to 04
90%Linen – 10%Rayon
4 colorways
Width: 142cm/56”
A huge, stylized vase and flowers are rendered in the ikat style, the feathered edge giving a soft halo effect. On top of this are randomly embroidered diamonds. Their sheen contrasts with the dry look of the linen print ground so that the whole fabric shimmers with shots of color. This combination of print and embroidery is an exciting new departure.

ZARI
2131/01 to 03
90%Linen – 10%Rayon
3 colorways
Width: 147cm/58”

The diamonds from Ikat Vase have also been used on their own on our favourite plain linen ground. The rusticity of the cloth and the sheen of the embroidered motifs make for a happy, and also sophisticated, marriage. As well as colorways taken from the sister design, there is a multi-colored version, which works with many of the other fabrics in the collection. Zari is the Indian name for an iridescent embroidery thread.

RAG RUG
2132/01 to 04
65%Rayon – 35%Ramie
4 colorways
Width: 137cm/54”
Martindale 27,000rubs Referencing an old piece of hand woven upholstery, Richard Smith painted the artwork for Rag Rug with large strokes of watercolor, working into this with various textures. The final design is printed on a highly textured ground giving further depth – upholstered it looks sensational.

RAMBAGH STRIPE
2130/01 to 04
65% Rayon – 35%Cotton
4 colorways
Width: 132cm/52”
Martindale 36,000rubs Another highly textured fabric, woven with slubby rayon yarns, this multi-coloured stripe combines herringbone, twill and plain weaves within the multi-coloured stripes of saturated colour. Four colourways that work beautifully with all the fabrics from Indore Garden plus many previous no.9 classics.

CALICUT
2137/01 to 23
100%Cotton
23 colorways
Width: 140cm/55”
Martindale 30,000rubs The wonderful stone-washed finish of this cotton plain brings to mind the traditional Indian cottons for which it has been named – Calicut was the city, Calico the cloth.

Tamarind, Henna, Dusk are just three of twenty-three exciting colors. Well-priced with good performance, Calicut will become a staple for decorating with the No.9 collections.

PAINTED PAISLEY
2133/01 to 04
100%Linen
4 colorways
Width: 137cm/54”

As the name suggests the traditional paisley motif, a no.9 favourite, has been hand painted by Richard Smith in a fresh and exciting way. Large in scale with whimsical details, the movement and watercolor tones give it a life of its own. The four dynamic colorways printed on our classic rustic linen ground make it irresistible.

SEEING STARS
2139/01
60%Polyester – 40%Viscose
1 colorway
Width: 300cm/118”

No.9 burn-outs have proved so popular in the past. So crisp, and the perfect way to introduce subtle pattern to the window at the same time as giving privacy. This year we have gone wide width - The designs are printed horizontally along double width fabric so curtains can be as wide as you wish with no joins! Seeing Stars is the same pattern of interlocking octagons, inspired by pierced stone-work screens, as the ground from Indore Garden. The positioning of the design allows for a smart border at the top and the base of the fabrics.

JARDINIERE
2138/01
60%Polyester – 40%Viscose
1 colorway
Width: 300cm/118”

Another wide width sheer fabric printed on the horizontal. The same ikat motif from the design "Ikat vase" is printed across the width of the fabric so there are no seams. The design is cut to fit the cloth, which gives a handsome frame to the design at the top and base of the fabric.
